Figures 1 and 5:
The image was found on Pinterest and I was drawn to this as I interpreted the coloured section to reflect the reality or deeper meaning of this image. Therefore, I interlinked the idea of using a vibrant coloured lens to uncover our artists’ truthful thoughts, and black and white are uniform portrayals of selves in turn reflecting postmodern ideas. Additionally, this further enhances the double meaning of the lyrics ‘get him back’.
Figures 2 and 3:
Silhouette was my second idea and incorporating the butterfly element as it symbolises hope and transformation which fits with the meaning behind the lyrics. However, elements of silhouette and butterflies were not incorporated in our final music video, and using this design seemed to deviate from the overall product.
Figure 4:
This minimalistic inspiration emerged as I researched deeper about cover designs and this was heavily influenced by Billie Eilish’s album ‘dont smile at me’. The different poses represent artists' multiple attitudes portrayed through the music video which showcases diverse and more relatable individuals.
Figure 6:
This idea is derived from the genre of the song, Alternative/Indie, and Pop. Alternative/Indie style differentiates from the mainstream as it is more unique. The collage style of items popped into mind as it represents dreamlike, surreal elements and blurs the boundary of categorizing it as a high or low-culture product.
Figures 7 and 8:
My final design was decided while shooting the music video as graffiti elements were heavily involved. The design corresponds to and aligns the elements and styles in our music video, which better promotes our artists. To exemplify, Adele’s album cover ‘25’ is very similar in style to her music videos in that album such as ‘Hello’.
